Color Chart

Surface preparation
A continuous, dry, smooth and clean roof deck is required for proper installation of BITUTECHKOREA asphalt shingles. The roof deck should also be of a nail penetrating material like wood, tile cement deck or a similar material. Mixing the shingles at least 5 packages, roof would come as uniform in color as possible.

I. MARKING OFF

  1. Snap a chalk line AB parallel to the direction of the maximum pitch and parallel to the eaves line, at a distance of 18.5 cm from the eaves.
  2. Mark a point X in the center of line AB.
  3. Snap a vertical chalk line XY.
  4. To give the correct positioning of the rows, snap horizontal lines at a distance of 13.5cm up to the roof? ridge-line.

II. INSTALLATION

  1. First, install the shingles on the eaves line (along line AB) after cutting off the tabs.
  2. Next, align the first shingle up to the central line XY and continue the row across the roof.
  3. Offset of the second row of shingles in accordance with the hexagonal shape of the tabs and continue across the roof.
  4. Continue to offset the rows of shingles up to the ridge-line of the roof.
  5. Remove the film which protects the self adhesive backing before fixing the PUZZLE shingles to the roofing with nails.

The first row is the most critical. Be sure it is laid perfectly straight, checking it regularly during application against the horizontal chalk line.

Fixings

  1. Apply 4 nails to each shingle
  2. The nails should pass through the underlying shingle.

  1. The length of the nails should be proportional to the thickness of the roof decking.

Ridges & Hips
Application of the hip and ridge covers should begin at the lower end of a hip or at either end of a ridge. BITUTECHKOREA does not provide separate hip and ridge shingles factory cut.

  1. Cut the shingles into 3 pieces (as shown below). These pieces will be used for the roof? ridge.
  2. The pieces have to be bent (heat the sanded side if necessary) and nailed into position as indicated, with 2 nails on the upper corners protected by the overlapping piece.
  3. Remove the self adhesive protection film before nailing.

Valleys
Valleys exist where two sloping roofs join at an angle. Because water runs off toward and along the valley joint and concentrates at this joint, it is especially vulnerable to leakage.

Type A valleys) These are valleys formed by interweaving the rows of shingles from the two intersecting slopes. The ends of the shingles

Type B valleys) These are valleys where the shingles extend from one side to at least 25cm beyond the center line. The shingles from the other side must proceed to the center line. When finished, mark the valley and then cut the shingles from the other side to the center line. All this has to be waterproofed. Nails should not be placed within 40cm from the center line.

Minimum pitch

  1. The minimum pitch for installation with nails is 40 %( 22°).
  2. In situations where the pitch is lower than 22°, waterproofing the roof is strongly suggested.

III. FINISHING

All finishing such as joints, verges, and chimneys can be of prefabricated market materials like copper, metals or plastics.
